XBRL Tagging & Validation Studio
Map Schedule III financials to taxonomy tags, run validation checks, and generate a sample instance document — a hands-on practice environment for CMA students.
How AOC-4 XBRL filing actually works
This tool is for practice only. Here's the real sequence, at a level useful for exam and articleship context — always check the latest ICAI/ICMAI guidance note and MCA circulars before an actual filing, since taxonomies and thresholds are amended periodically.
1. Check applicability
XBRL filing of financial statements (AOC-4 XBRL / AOC-4 CFS XBRL) is mandatory for specified classes of companies notified by MCA — typically listed companies and their Indian subsidiaries, companies with paid-up capital or turnover above prescribed thresholds, and companies required to prepare financials under Ind AS. Non-applicable companies file the regular AOC-4.
2. Finalise and get statements approved
The financial statements must be audited and adopted by the Board (and shareholders, where applicable) before conversion to XBRL — the XBRL instance must match the adopted financials exactly.
3. Map to the current MCA-notified taxonomy
Use the specific Ind AS or Indian GAAP taxonomy version notified by MCA for that financial year (taxonomies are versioned and updated). Every mandatory element in the taxonomy's business rules must be tagged; unused elements are left untagged, not forced.
4. Validate before signing
Run the instance through the MCA-prescribed validation tool (or an XBRL processor such as Arelle configured with the official taxonomy) to catch schema errors, business-rule violations, and calculation inconsistencies. Correct every error the tool reports — warnings should be reviewed, not just dismissed.
5. Digitally sign
The XBRL document is signed using the registered Class 2/3 DSC of an authorised director/KMP and the practicing professional certifying the form, through the signing utility integrated with the MCA portal workflow.
6. Upload and pay fees
Upload the signed instance as an attachment to e-form AOC-4 XBRL (standalone) or AOC-4 CFS XBRL (consolidated) on the MCA V3 portal, complete the form fields, and pay the filing fee. Note the SRN generated on submission.
7. Track and respond
Track the SRN status on the portal. If the Registrar raises a resubmission query, correct and refile within the given timeline to avoid additional fees or non-compliance flags.
Where to go for the real thing
MCA's website (mca.gov.in) publishes the current taxonomy files, validation tool, and filing manuals under its XBRL section — that, not this practice tool, is the authoritative source for an actual filing.
