Greetings, readers! Welcome to my first article on "CMA Knowledge." Allow me to introduce myself;
I am Mahadev S., a working professional with over 18 years of work experience in the fields of Taxation, Accounting, and SCM. Today, I am excited to share a personal story with you that revolves around the early days of my college life and the invaluable lessons I learned about self-motivation and determination in achieving my goals.
Back in 2001, during my first year of B.Com, my family was facing financial difficulties. As a result, I felt compelled to find a way to support them financially while pursuing my studies. I had a substantial amount of time available after college hours to explore potential opportunities. After discussing with friends and family, I was fortunate to receive a part-time job offer from my friend's cousin, who worked in a small workshop.
On the following day, I visited the workshop and was introduced to the owner. He conducted a brief interview, inquiring about my education, family background, and motivations for seeking employment while still in college. I answered honestly, and he agreed to hire me on a part-time basis. However, he set certain expectations, emphasizing the need for regular attendance and stating that my performance would be evaluated during the initial days to determine my suitability for the position.

My first day at the workshop exposed me to a non-friendly environment characterized by excessive humidity and noise. The workshop housed numerous lathe machines, and my primary responsibility was to cut aluminum bars into small pieces, precisely measuring 105-115mm. I would mark the bars and cut as many as possible to the specified length.

During the initial few days, the job seemed manageable, and I experienced no major challenges. However, amidst my work and college commitments, my father encouraged me to pursue a one-year computer diploma at an affordable institute recommended by his friend.
Thus began a hectic routine, where my days consisted of attending college from 7 am to 11 am, working at the workshop from 12 pm to 5 pm, taking a two-hour break from 5 pm to 7 pm for computer classes, and then returning to work at the workshop from 8 pm to 11 pm.

Meanwhile, I had also qualified for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) three-year army training after passing a rigorous selection test. The NCC physical training sessions were held every Sunday from 7 am to 11 am.
At the age of 18, I found myself juggling multiple responsibilities. Remarkably, my excellent physical fitness, nurtured through regular exercise, enabled me to tackle all these tasks with vigor and enthusiasm. I found joy in the daily activities and relished the opportunities that came my way.

Now, you may wonder how these real-life experiences contributed to my academic growth. Well, as a student working in the workshop, I gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience. After a month and a half, the workshop owner was impressed by my attitude and offered to train me in operating the lathe machines. Due to my eagerness to learn and refusal to give up, I mastered the machine operations within a week. The job entailed numerous operations, requiring me to transition from one machine to another for each subsequent step. Any mistakes incurred penalties due to the high cost of the materials involved.
Simultaneously, as a first-year commerce student, I was studying Mathematics and Costing. The subject of Costing resonated deeply with my working experience. While my teacher taught the theory, I visualized the entire costing process based on my practical involvement at the workshop.

Concepts such as costing elements, material operations, and labor overheads became clearer to me, allowing me to excel in my studies and achieve good marks.
