How to Study for the CMA Inter Exam While Working in Full-Time Job?

Hi, Friends, welcome back to the CMA knowledge fresh blog. In this article, I am going to share my Study plan and strategies which help me to complete my CMA intermediate course while working in a full-time job & having a middle-level management Position.
First of all, I want to introduce myself, Mahadev, I am working in an MNC company & have a total of 15 years of work experience in the manufacturing sector.

I had taken CMA course inter-admission in the year 2019 May, month and appeared for CMA inter the first group in Dec'2019 & Successfully pass 1st group, and the Inter Second group I had given in Dec'2020, due to Covid'19 it was the exam was conducted in Jan'2021. I successfully passed the second Group with good marks.

Finally, I have completed my first target of becoming a CMA by successfully completing both  CMA Inter groups.

So, now I want to share my successful journey with my fellow CMA Students who are working in a full-time jobs. I do understand how difficult it is to find time from a full-time job and a busy schedule, but as a CMA aspirant and a working person, you need to find a way to spare 2 to 4 hrs for yourself to study.

Now the question arises Is it really possible to qualify for CMA inter with a Full-time job & family responsibilities. Then my answer is a Big yes because I have completed my CMA intermediate course in two straight attempts. If you want to know my study strategy then read full article, i will explain my Study Plan and Strategy.

1. CMA goal & Vision:

First of all, all students need to decide why they are choosing CMA and what they want to achieve in the CMA course, Without having a proper goal & vision of their future, one cannot give his / her 100% effort. So, My humble request to all the CMA students is, first of all, you should assess whether you are willing to do this CMA course, then only take admission and take sincere stapes to study the CMA course with own self. Don't do this course if you don't like CMA course subjects.

2. CMA Study Plan:

As a working person, CMA students need to make a Study timetable and properly utilised the free time available for the study. in my case, I study daily for 2 hrs & 8 -10 hours on the weekend. Properly utilization of each day you can definitely able to complete a Single group by doing self-study in 6 months.

3. CMA Study Strategy:

Study strategy may vary from person to person, but I personally follow One subject at a time. I prefer to study from institute study material and make short notes while reading. Completing the entire subject in 20 to 25 days gives me a basic idea of which part is useful for the exam point of view and marks the important sums and concepts. Basically, I opted for oral coaching from the institute Pune chapter, the classes of the institute chapter help me to clear conceptual clarity. One thing I advised if you are living in the metro city then go for the oral coaching of the institute that will not cost you any additional amount but helps you to interact with the best working professional faculty, their working experience definitely helps to learn with more clarity and study practical subjects concepts with more clarity and in a simple manner.

4. Coaching classes

I have not taken any private coaching for both groups as I am a working professional I don't have any time to attainted the regular coaching classes, but I am attending the weekend Institute Chapter classes. I am not against the coaching classes, but I think if you are a working person then you don't just depend on the private coaching classes as they are providing short study notes but those are not enough to clear the CMA exam on the first attempt, you need to do self-study and in any conceptual clarity, the take the help of the institute chapter faculties or you can attend the institute webinars, whereas they are providing the coaching on the difficult subjects.

5. Making Short Notes:

I am doing 95% self-study and 5% help from the institute chapter faculty. due to this I have prepared my own short notes on each and every subject covering all the chapters of the subjects. You can use the institute workbook and other study materials or reference books, which you may find suitable for your self-study.

6. Subjectwise study strategies:

As you are a CMA inter-student, then you should make a SWOT analysis of your own self and decide in which subject how much time you need to spend. I have taken one group at a time and in CMA Group one you might know the 1st group is somehow difficult to clear in the first attempt. In group one DT & Law subjects are very lengthy, so to deal with these subjects you need to prepare your own strategy to tackle the DT & Law Subject. Make sure before going to appear for the 1st group exam you have completed all the subjects & all chapters and solved at least 3 to 4 past year question papers. This will surely help you to perform well in the CMA intermediate examination.

7. Conceptual clarity with the practical approach:

As you all know CMA is a professional course then I will recommend all CMA students study the CMA course as a practical based, which means if you study a Direct tax subject then you can check your family member or Friends form 16 and if you are working in an organization or company then check what is the legal compliance you need to follow and what are the annual return your organization is filling with respective authorities. What accounting policies your organization is following and how your accounting transaction effects are going with the theoretical base or concepts.

8. Practical question-solving:

Solving practical sums from the study material is a must, all CMA Students need to solve practical questions from the study material & past year question papers because some of the questions are asked from the study material with some minimal changes, this will help to know what kind of question institute asked and how to answer the question with the suggested answer of the institute website because some time the same question is solved with a different method.

9. Reference books:

As professional course students all of you need to read reference books of the publication issued by the ICMAI on their official website, to have knowledge of the latest changes and updates.

10. Follow Telegram Study groups:

As most working professional students have smartphones, so you can use the Telegram app for your study purpose. In these telegram study groups, you can ask your queries to your fellow students.

11. Exam preparation strategy:

After completing the entire subject then only appear for the exam. As half preparation never gives a fruitful result. After completing the syllabus you can attend the rapid marathon classes online, which are available on youtube freely. you can follow the good youtube channel.

12. Exam day Study & revision plan

I will update you soon!

13. Self-motivation

You are the only person who is responsible for your own self-motivation. Others can only influence you but you are the one who knows your SWOT. So, Commit yourself to becoming CMA.

These are some points that I think need to share with all of my fellow CMA students.

the last thing that needs to remember Nothing is impossible because every CMA should think IM is possible.
